Long Tall Jefferson — growing up takes a lifetime

Long Tall Jefferson’s latest single, «growing up takes a lifetime» continues to delve into raw, introspective themes while maintaining his signature singer-songwriter style.

i’ve got all I need somehow it’s not enough

one look in the mirror and I call the bluff

and my hair is just as long

as when I wrote my first song

and played it for a girl I liked

Accompanied by a static synth line and pulsating drums, the song explores the haunting realization that even in your mid-thirties, the emotional insecurity of teenage angst hasn’t fully faded. The singer finds himself still battling with the same big questions, yearning for company and connection, and now additionally worrying about the world his children will inherit.

“This one hit me midday out of the blue, running to my notepad to write it down, singing it into my phone and then having to find out what the chords are. It was the last song I wrote for the album. I was 34 at the time and I took it as a starting point to think back on being 17 and picturing myself at 70.” – Long Tall Jefferson
