IKAN HYU — manta - rework

‘Sometimes songs change their meanings and need a different set of clothing’, says Anisa, half of IKAN HYU and producer of this rework.

‘manta’ is about being different & being yourself despite popular opinion or societal conventions. As opposed to the angry and defiant tone of the original recording, this is a sadder and more intimate side of the same story.

The idea of reworking the song was born after an unplugged live version performed with four other women, all musician friends. In the now recorded rework, Lisa Oribasi and Ella Ronen, who were part of that live version, are featured as backing vocalists. Jan Humbel, who normally shouts his part from behind the lighting desk during live shows, is also represented with his first recorded Ad Lib:). 

‘manta’ was inspired by the world’s only pink manta ray, native to the seas near Indonesia & Australia. This manta really exists but its colouring remains a mystery.
